Briess Malt & Ingredients Company is centrally located in America's
Heartland. Assuring availability of product is a key component of our operations
and one of the guiding forces of ongoing strategic planning and growth. As a
result, expansion over the years has included installing specialized roasting
equipment at multiple locations, labs inside all manufacturing facilities and
multiple milling operations.
Investing in equipment and modern technology that enhances production
capabilities, improves quality control, or reduces production costs is an
ongoing process. Today, Briess facilities include:
Chilton Malthouse
Originally built in 1901 to provide employment and a local outlet for area
farmers to sell their grain, the Chilton Malthouse has been customized with
specialized drying equipment to produce an almost unlimited variety of base and
specialty malts. A computerized bagging line assures accurate weight of bagged
product
Waterloo Roasting Facility
The Roasting Facility in Waterloo, Wisconsin, was built in 1997 to expand
capacity of specialty roasted malts.
Extract/Dryer Plant
Briess is unique in that we are the only vertically integrated malting company
in North America. That means we make malt extracts—used in the brewing process
or as natural sweeteners in foods and beverages—from our own malts. A new,
state-of-the-art fully automated extract production plant was constructed in
Chilton and commissioned in February 2002. It is capable of producing pure malt
extracts and syrups, brown rice syrup, and other grain extracts. The dryer was
commissioned in March 2005.
Insta Grains(r) Processing Plant/Dry Blending Facility
Built in 1990, this modern facility produces Insta Grains(r0 ingredients,
pregelatinized flakes, and Briess(tm) toasted grains. It also houses one of the
most specialized blending facilities in America's Heartland for customized
blending services.
Milling Facility
The milling facility grinds to standard or custom specification. All milled
ingredients are packaged by computerized equipment to assure accurate weight.
Labs
Each manufacturing plant has its own well equipped, staffed lab for strict
quality control.
Distribution Center/Office Complex
Built in 1997 and expanded in 2000 for additional warehouse space and loading docks,
this facility covers more than 110,000 square feet and is designed for efficient,
sanitary warehousing and shipping and hand picking of small orders. Attached to
the Distribution Center is an office complex that houses corporate offices, sales
and marketing, accounting, inventory, and shipping.
