April 12, 2006-To celebrate 130 years of malting tradition, Briess Malt & Ingredients
Company officially released Briess(tm) Anniversary Malt and announced its Have a
Ball at Briess(tm) contest at the 2006 Brewers
Association's Craft Brewers Conference and BrewExpo in Seattle, Washington.
Produced in the company's Chilton, Wisconsin, malthouse from 2-Row Moravian
barley, Briess(tm) Anniversary Malt is a light-colored, mild flavored, low
protein pilsener-style malt reminiscent of malts originally produced at the
family's Czechoslovakian malthouse. Moravian is historically the preferred
barley for lager beer, and Briess(tm) Anniversary Malt holds true to that
tradition. It has a clean, delicately malty flavor with subtle sweetness. It
produces smooth wort with low astringency. Low in protein, it is characterized
by very plump kernels. Briess(tm) Anniversary Malt is suitable as the base malt
for any beer style. It is available directly from Briess by calling
920.849.7711, or through an authorized Briess distributor.

Also in celebration of 130 years of malting tradition, Briess is sponsoring a
Have a Ball at Briess(tm) contest. The grand prize winner will help produce and
name his or her favorite Briess roasted malt in a traditional K-Ball Roaster at
the Briess malthouse in Chilton, Wisconsin. The contest is open to owners and
employees of ATF licensed breweries in the United States. The winner and a
co-worker will receive roundtrip airfare and ground transportation to Chilton,
Wisconsin, two nights stay at the Osthoff Resort in Elkhart Lake, and a full day
touring the Briess malthouse and assisting in the production of a roasted malt
in a K-Ball roaster. The winner will also name the roasted malt, which will
become part of the Briess specialty malt portfolio as a limited edition malt.
Entries will be accepted from April 12 to August 12, 2006. For contest details

The roots of Briess Malt & Ingredients Company dates back to 1876 in the Briess
family homeland of Moravia, Czechoslovakia. There Ignatius Briess, a grain
exchanger by trade, began malting barley and quickly established the Briess
family business as a world leader in the production of quality malt and
specialty grain products for brewing and baking. Today, Briess Malt &
Ingredients Company continues the Briess family tradition in a unique,
specialized malthouse and grain processing facilities in America's Heartland.
Briess produces more types of base and specialty malt than any malting company.
It is also the only vertically integrated malting company in North America,
making malt extracts from its own malt.
